Astrid Berg is course leader of the International Public Affairs specialisation.

Developer and coordinator of  specialisation on the communication by, in and about the European Union, EU-policy and public affairs. Specialized in international organisations and international legal affairs. Studied at the University of Utrecht and the London School of Economics and Political Science. Researcher of the G.J. Wiarda Institute, Centre of Law and European Integration, Research assistant at the international law department of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Member of Tacceus Consortium for EUROSIM.


Hanneke Brakenhoff

Hanneke Brakenhoff is principle lecturer & trainer in Intercultural competences and director of IC3

Director of the Centre of Excellence in Intercultural Competence; premises is that intercultural competence is key to successful international business, government and civil society. The CIC focuses on intercultural training, consultation (for SME’s), facilitation as management instrument and (action) research. Projects (ao) in Uganda, India, Sudan, China, The Netherlands, Germany.

Lecturer in communication theory and skills, co-developer of bachelor program International Communication, implementing competency based learning philosophy, co-developer minor program International Aid and Development and is a  member of SIETAR

Has lived and worked in The Netherlands, Ghana and Jordania.


Jeanine Deen

jeanine1-150x150Jeanine Deen is professor of International Communication and Media and chair of the IC3 center.

Professor of International Communication and Media, creator of Master specialisation program in international and intercultural communication (University of Groningen); has designed workshops for trainers in Intercultural communication. Dissertation: Dealing with problems in intercultural communication. Board member of the Geert Hofstede Lectures,  members of different boards, including SIETAR and management  team of the Department of Language an literature of the University of Groningen. Degrees from University of Groningen, University of California (MA) and University Tilburg (PhD); visiting professor University of Goteborg and Jyvaskyla; has lived and worked in The Netherlands and the USA. Erik Kostelijk

Erik Kostelijk is senior researcher and principle lecturer in international marketing communication. He is course leader of the specialisation programme in International Business Communication.

This programme brings together European and Chinese students in Euro-Chinese teams. European and Chinese companies are supported by these teams in their business endeavours. This is a joint project with Nankai University in Tianjin, China

Erik is research project coordinator with account responsibility at the research agency of the Hanze University. He is co-author of textbook “Strategic Marketing: An Applied Approach” (McGraw Hill).

His PhD research is an international comparison of the consequences of using values for brand image and branding activities. He has lived and worked in the Netherlands, Romania and the USA.

Iekje Smit

iekjeIekje Smit is programme director of the Master in International Communication, management team of the School of Communication & Media and Geert Hofstede Consortium chair.
Project manager and Curriculum developer of bachelor in Communication, Major International Communication, programme director and management team member since 2004; project coordinator master of international communication. International coordinator for the School of Communication and Media, responsible for international network development, setting up student and faculty exchanges, joint projects with partner institutions, export of curricula . Project manager of Year of Intercultural Dialogue student conference, and the twice yearly international student conference on international communication issues and organiser of yearly Geert Hofstede Lecture together with the University of Groningen.

Has lived and worked in The Netherlands, the USA and France and is a member of EAIE, Euprera, EACD


Hope Webber

hopeDr Hope Webber is a lecturer of Communication Research Methods, Socio Economic Development Theory, and Project Management at the Department of Communication and Media of Hanze University Groningen.

Moreover, he teaches International Marketing Research at MBA level at the Department of International Business Studies at the same university and has been a visiting lecturer at the Institute for Advanced ICT Studies in Kumasi, Ghana.

Dr Webber also works as a Regional Advisor on Bio- Safety Clearing House Project of the United Nations Environment Program, in the course of which he has worked with governments of more than 20 African and Asian countries. His publications include various articles, discussion papers, country reports and book contributions, and he is fluent in English, Dutch, and Bulgarian and a fair knowledge of French, Greek and Russian.
