Milan, Italy
With it’s 1.3 million inhabitants, Milan, the capital of Lombardy, is one of the biggest and most important cities in Italy. Its Celtic origins go back to 400 B.C. and since then it has always been a leading centre of industry and trade in northern Italy. After World World II, the city has emerged as Italy’s major centre for commerce, finance, publishing and, recently, as the Italian capital of the media, design, fashion and advanced service sectors.
Milan is an exciting and stimulating city for students, offering a wide range of social and cultural activities. With its five universities, it welcomes thousands of students from all over the world in a multicultural environment. Milan is dynamic and in constant evolution. And Universit? IULM wants to contribute to its growth.
Come to Milan and discover its fascinating corners: Brera discrict, one of the oldest and most elegant districts in Milan, Castello Sforzesco, the Medieval Castle surrounded by the beautiful Parco Sempione, the pedestrian area in the very heart of town, with Duomo and Piazza della Scala. And finally, don’t forget the ‘Navigli’, the canals in one of the most picturesque districts of Milan. Up until 1928 Milan was actually a ‘waterway town’, surrounded and crossed by several canals. If you are looking for a flash back into time, this is the right place. A very pleasant area, buzzing with life until late at night, where you can listen to live music in countless bars and pubs.
In March 2008 Milan was awarded the organisation of the Universal Exposition 2015. The event will be held under the theme “Feeding the planet, energy for life”.
