Visa requirements

Each country has different visa requirements. The information we visa-passport_01
have provided below is subject to change. We  recommend to always contact your local Embassy/Consulate for the latest details regarding the requested documents, the costs and processing time. If you need a visa for both destinations, please make sure you are aware of both visa procedures.

The Netherlands, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen:

The Dutch immigration authorities (the ‘IND’) make sure that the immigration policy of the Dutch government is carried out accurately. Hanze University of Applied Sciences (UAS) works closely together with the IND to make sure that immigration matters are arranged properly.

Therefore, Hanze (UAS) handles all immigration related matters for its students. You can find out if you need a visa or residence permit for the Netherlands by clicking here.

If you are accepted for the MIC and you need a visa or residence permit for the Netherlands, Hanze’s International Student Office (ISO) will point out the requirements to, guide you through the rules and regulations, and will fully assist you with the procedures. You can read here on the immigration site of Hanze (UAS) in detail what needs to be arranged for a visa and or residence permit for the Netherlands.

Italy, University of Languages & Communication, Milan:

If you are accepted for the MIC programme and you need a visa and/or residence permit for Italy, the University of Languages and Communication (IULM) will contact you about the visa procedures and send you a confirmation letter.

In order to obtain a study visa, it is necessary to apply at the Consulate/Embassy in your country of origin or in the country where you are studying for the first semester.

Dichiarazione di valore in loco:
A basic requirement in order to be admitted to an Italian university Master course is that you have had at least 15 years of studies starting from your first class in the primary school until obtaining your Bachelor’s degree.

You have to contact the Italian diplomatic authority (Consulate/Embassy) in the country where you have graduated and ask for the “Dichiarazione di valore in loco”(DVL). A DVL is a document which provides a short description of your academic or professional qualification. It states that your degree is valuable as a first-level Italian degree, specifies the total number of school years and the full name of the university where the degree has been taken. DVLs are issued in Italian when presenting a “confirmation letter” from IULM university, the original/certified copy of your secondary school diploma, your graduation degree and the legal translation into Italian of these diplomas. If you cannot personally go the Consulate in the country where you have graduated, you should contact the Consulate/Embassy to ask if you can authorize somebody (for instance a relative) to act on behalf of you.

United Kingdom, Leeds Metropolitan University:

If you are accepted for the MIC programme, and you need a visa and/or residence permit for the United Kingdom, Leeds Metropolitan University (LMU) will issue a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) which is e-mailed to you. You then need to apply to the United Kingdom Borders Agency (UKBA) for an adult general student visa under Tier 4 of the points based immigration system. You will need to have 40 points altogether; 30 of these are obtained by providing the CAS from Leeds Metropolitan University; the remaining 10 points are obtained by proving you have the correct finances to support your study and living and accommodation costs. More information is available on the LMU website.
